The Devil's Soup Bowl
The
trail to the Devil's Soup Bowl is breathtaking. It makes for a
great Michigan day trip.
The hiking trail winds around the bog area at the South end of Deep
Lake, continues across open fields and old farm homesteads, and
leads to the Devil's Soupbowl where it winds around the little
Soupbowl and returns by the trail North of Deep Lake. The trail
starts across from the Yankee Springs Campground.
Mountain Biking - You can't ride into the bowl, the
slopes are too steep and no riding trails descend into it. You can
ride around the rim of the Devil’s Soup Bowl on the Yankee Springs
Deep Lake Trail. You can hike down into the bowl if you are up for
a foot-based adventure. The depth is approximately 100 feet on a
steep grade.
What’s a Devil’s Soup Bowl?
The bowl is a huge, glacially carved bowl in the earth that was
formed about 10-13,000 years ago. These formations are
actually "kettle" lakes. A trail winds to the bottom of the
formation to provide a unique look at an unusual area.
