Porcupine Mountains
The Porcupine Mountains State Park in Ontonagon County Michigan is one of our finest all season destinations.
The park was created
in 1945 to preserve and protect the last large stand of uncut
hardwood hemlock remaining in the Midwest. The Porcupine
Mountains were the site of copper mining in the 19th century. They
are also the location of a large stand of old growth forest, and
home to many black bears. The area is popular among tourists,
especially the Lake
of the Clouds in the heart of the mountains.
There are improved camping areas, rustic camping, cabins, music festivals and great winter activities.
