kakabika falls - Paulding michigan
Kakabika
Falls is another waterfall that isn't visited very often. It
is easy to reach. From Paulding go north to Sleepy Hollow Road
and turn west. This is a rough scenic drive and it will get
wet and narrow but it is beautiful. After winding through the
forest you will come to a decrepit bridge and the parking area.
If you want a paved route try this. From U.S. 2, 12 miles
east of Marenisco (2 miles east of Gogebic Station) and 16 miles
west of Watersmeet. Turn north on CR 527/Thayer Rd. In about half a
mile you'll see a parking area and trail to the falls.
Kakabika Falls still has many redeeming qualities for those that
don’t mind smaller waterfalls. First off, the falls are pretty easy
to get to, requiring a short drive off of US-2. Second, the
waterfall will probably be devoid of people. When I visited, nobody
else was there. So if you want peace and quiet, this might be the
place for you. Third, the short hike to the falls is quite beautiful
and makes for a nice break on a long road trip.
