Au sable river

au sable river overlookWorld famous for trout fishing, the Au Sable runs 119 miles through some of the most beautiful wilderness in lower Michigan and empties into Lake Huron.  Fly fishing purists come from around the world to enjoy the catch and release, fly fishing only section that stretches 9 miles from Burton's Landing to Wakely Bridge.

Perhaps the most scenic section is the 23 miles from the Mio Dam down to the 4001 Bridge. Nationally designated as wild and scenic, only canoes, kayaks, rafts and small boats with electric motors are allowed.

There are gorgeous overlooks along the F-32 road of this section between Mio and McKinley. On your way to the walk-in and canoe-in campsites, you will likely see plenty of wildlife including eagles, deer and perhaps even a bear.

The final section from 4001 Bridge to Lake Huron has several dams that create large impoundments that are suitable for larger boats.
