Mackinac Island has escaped most of the changes brought about by the
modern world. Here you are kind of forced to slow down simply
because there are no cars. Travel is by bike, horse drawn or
on foot on Mackinac Island.
National Geographic has designated the natural beauty here as one of
the ten finest in America.
Annual events include the Lilac Festival which ends with one of the
largest "All Horse Hitch" parades in the country.
Just across the water is another area of natural beauty, the
Les Cheneaux
Islands.
